The fedora hat is named after the female character Fedora, played by legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt in an 1882 theatrical comedy of the same name. Considered the queen of disguise on stage and leader of the proto-feminist movement, her hat becomes the symbol of the movement itself and a fashion accessory in the female world.
